Abstract:

In this research, an econometric analysis was conducted to estimate the rate of family and individual spending on a group of the main food commodities in the holy Karbala governorate, determine the impact of income and the size of the family and other factors on the rates of consumer spending and know the size of the change in the level of food consumption when there is any change in those factors, as well as Estimating the local market needs of these commodities for the purpose of developing future plans by the relevant authorities. Data were gathered through a form prepared for this purpose and presented to a group of arbitrators. The form was also presented to the Central Bureau of Statistics and Informatics.

The data were subjected to analysis using statistical methods and the results were presented in the form of tables, figures and estimated equations with the associated statistical indicators required.

The importance of research emerges through monitoring the level of the disparity in income distribution to families seeking to satisfy their needs of food and luxury goods and the impact of this disparity on the rates and nature of consumer spending.

The study concluded that there is a significant difference in the average monthly consumption of food and luxury commodities according to some characteristics of the sample, as this matter is due to the effect of the studied variables and other factors that have not been addressed, and the study also concluded that there are significant differences between the average monthly consumption of a person from goods Nutritional and complementary according to some characteristics of the sample, and at the same time, there are no significant differences for other commodities according to the characteristics of the sample, such as the geographical location of the consumer, the number of family members and the number of employees in it and others related to the average monthly income per person,

the study also found that the arithmetic circles have a major role in influencing the estimation of monthly consumption rates per capita, which is represented by the constant limit in the estimated regression equation, which showed high significance in all estimated equations without exception, and that the average monthly consumption of an individual from food commodities to some food commodities was not affected by variables The study may be attributed to the country’s sufficiency of these commodities during the study period, as the study showed that the average monthly per capita consumption of food and luxury goods is inversely related to the number of family members and this means that the increase in the number of family members will lead to Reducing per capita consumption, which is consistent with economic theory

Also, the average monthly income of the individual and the family clearly affects the average monthly consumption. The study also found that the contributions of the explanatory variables are weak in the sum of the total squares of deviations from the values of the dependent variable from their mean.

The study recommended the necessity of expanding the research base by increasing the sample size and expanding the consumables that were included in the study as well as the introduction of other factors that may have a significant effect on the rate of individual consumption.
