The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Administration and Economics organized an awareness workshop for students, focusing on strategies to combat social stigma and foster a positive perspective toward addicts. This initiative aligns with the college’s ongoing efforts to raise societal awareness regarding mental health and addiction issues.

Key Topics of the Workshop

The session was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Somaya Abdullah, who covered several key topics, including:

  • The concept of social stigma and its psychological and social impact, particularly on addicts.
  • The role of society in supporting and rehabilitating addicts, helping them reintegrate into the community.
  • The importance of challenging negative stereotypes about addicts and providing them with psychological and social support rather than marginalization and exclusion.

Interactive Discussions

The workshop included interactive discussions between students and the lecturer, where participants exchanged perspectives on the challenges addicts face in society and the role of families and educational institutions in creating a supportive environment for their recovery.

Commitment to Awareness and Support

At the end of the session, the Psychological Counseling Unit reaffirmed its commitment to organizing similar awareness events, emphasizing their positive impact in promoting a culture of support and acceptance. The unit highlighted the importance of treating addicts as individuals in need of help and rehabilitation rather than exclusion and isolation.
