University of Karbala – College of Administration and Economics – Department of Statistics: A Pioneering Step in Advancing the Educational Process

As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance academic and scientific standards, the Department of Statistics at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Karbala, has taken a pioneering initiative—one that is considered the first of its kind across the university’s colleges. The department has formed scientific discussion committees for each fourth-year student to defend their graduation research project as part of earning their bachelor’s degree.

This initiative simulates the mechanism of thesis defenses for master’s and doctoral degrees, reflecting the department’s commitment to strengthening students’ academic and research skills, refining their scholarly abilities, and preparing them confidently and competently for postgraduate studies.

The department recently held its first such scientific discussion, where student Zainab Mushtaq Ali defended her graduation project before a scientific committee consisting of:

  • Prof. Dr. Jasem Hussein Nasser
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Sadaa Faydh Mohammed
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Sakeena Shamil Jasem
  • Lecturer Dr. Bashar Khalid Ali

The discussion took place in a rigorous academic setting marked by constructive academic dialogue and detailed scientific feedback, aimed at improving the content and quality of the research.

The committee praised the student’s efforts and the level of the submitted research. They also commended this groundbreaking initiative by the department, considering it a qualitative leap toward enhancing the quality of university education and research.

It is worth noting that the Department of Statistics continues its preparations to evaluate the remaining fourth-year students’ graduation projects under this new framework—an approach designed to foster a culture of scientific research and instill academic values in students from the early stages of their university journey.
