In line with its commitment to developing the leadership and administrative competencies of its staff, the College of Administration and Economics at the University of Karbala organized a specialized training course titled: “Leadership with Emotional Intelligence: Understanding and Managing Emotions to Improve Leadership Performance.”
The course was held from Monday, February 23, 2026, to Wednesday, February 25, 2026, and directly targeted faculty members and administrative staff, aiming to equip them with the psychological and managerial tools needed to enhance institutional performance.
The course was delivered by a group of specialized academic staff in administrative and human development, including:
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Adel Majeed Al-Nasrawi
- Asst. Lect. Marwa Ali Neama
- Asst. Lect. Saja Nazem
During the sessions, the lecturers emphasized that a successful leader in the modern era is one who possesses the ability to understand their own emotions as well as those of their team, and to transform this understanding into productive energy that contributes to achieving the goals of the college and the university through teamwork.
The training program included key practical aspects of emotional intelligence, most notably:
- Self-Awareness: Recognizing personal emotions and understanding their impact on leadership decisions.
- Self-Management: Strategies for controlling emotions, managing work pressures, and maintaining balance during crises.
- Social Awareness: Developing empathy skills to understand the needs of subordinates and colleagues and build trust.
- Relationship Management: Effective communication techniques and conflict resolution strategies in the workplace using diplomatic and impactful approaches.
The course aimed to shift from traditional leadership concepts to inspiring, human-centered leadership, positively reflecting on job satisfaction and the quality of educational and administrative services provided. The sessions witnessed strong engagement from faculty and staff through practical workshops and discussions of real-life cases from the university work environment.
This initiative is part of the college administration’s ongoing plan to invest in human resources, emphasizing that emotional intelligence skills are a fundamental pillar for excellence in academic and professional performance amid contemporary challenges.
