College of Administration and Economics Holds a Training Course Entitled “The Role of the Arabic Language in Legal Drafting”

As part of its academic program aimed at enhancing linguistic skills in specialized fields, the Department of Accounting at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Karbala, organized its second training course entitled “The Role of the Arabic Language in Legal Drafting,” held from March 22 to March 24, 2026.

The course aimed to highlight the fundamental relationship between the precision of the Arabic language and the accuracy of legal and administrative texts, ensuring the drafting of decisions and legislation free from ambiguity and misinterpretation.

The course was delivered by:

  • Assistant Professor Dr. Azhar Subhi Al-Jubouri
  • Lecturer Dr. Hala Kareem Reda
  • Assistant Lecturer Zainab Atiwi Duraib

The course program included several key topics, including:

1. Characteristics of Legal Style:
How to employ formal and precise Arabic vocabulary in drafting contracts and internal regulations, and the distinction between literary language and the concise, precise nature of legal language.

2. Avoiding Linguistic Loopholes:
An explanation of common errors in constructing legal sentences that may lead to changes in meaning or loss of rights, along with guidance on the correct use of punctuation to ensure clarity.

3. Contemporary Legal Terminology:
How to Arabize modern legal terms while preserving the authenticity of Arabic expression in official correspondence.

4. Practical Applications:
Training participants on rewriting legal and administrative texts in a linguistically and technically sound manner.

The course witnessed remarkable engagement from participants. The lecturers emphasized that “words in law are instruments of judgment,” stressing that mastering the Arabic language is the first line of defense for any legal or administrative professional seeking to produce precise work that safeguards the rights of institutions and individuals.
