Abstract:

Depleted resources play an important role in achieving sustainable development, by advancing the process of production, stability, growth and economic development in both economic and social fields, but they affect in varying proportions the environment, as they represent the greatest risk in polluting the environment and its surroundings, particularly oil and coal, which has made the need to seek alternative sources and resources for sustainable development, the main concern of many countries dependent on a single resource, and a good example of That Iraq and Algeria, which account for about 98% of their income from the export of hydrocarbons, and thus will not achieve sustainable development, so that this development will be achieved, Rational and rational exploitation of depleted resources and diversification of resources rather than relying on a single resource, which results from not initiating diversification, requires the problem of not allocating these resources optimally and turning this grace into a curse or the so-called Resource Curse, so it is necessary to take care of and promote the productive sector, agricultural and industrial and diversify the sources in each, which may enable it in the future to enter the field of sustainable development.

The research is important that depleted natural resources play a major and distinct role in economic growth and therefore on sustainable economic development, by exploiting these resources and investing their returns by supporting productive sectors to benefit current generations and ensuring the future of later generations by examining the reality of sustainable development in the Iraqi economy To know how to achieve them, identify the problems and constraints they suffer, identify ways to diversify the types of depleted resources, diversify their sources of revenues and achieve a distinct economic breakthrough in achieving sustainable development. Note that the problem underlying the research is whether there is a possibility to rely on depleted resources in achieving sustainable development, is there a relationship between the size of those resources and the degree of achieving sustainable development, and are there successful experiences of countries that have achieved success in the field of sustainable development by relying on depleted resources, and is it possible to benefit from those experiences in the Iraqi economy. The research was based on the premise that depleted resource revenues can only be based on a wide range of conditions and economic, institutional and community reforms.

The research found that the analysis and measurement of the relationship between depleted resources and indicators of sustainable development, thus providing proposed solutions to address the imbalance between these variables in the Iraqi economy.
