Using Some Statistical Models to Estimate the Effect of Chemical Pollutants in the Tigris River

Abstract
This study investigated the problem of chemical and physical pollution of water and how to treat it by analyzing the collected data statistically and constructing equations that link the concentrations of some chemical pollutants in the water of the Tigris River by estimating the relationship between these concentrations , Been used least squares method was used to estimate the linear relationship between each Pollutant as a function of other contaminants , the method of selecting the best regression equation was used in an ” backward elimination ” Statistical indicators can be referenced quickly to demonstrate the validity of the water for daily uses .
And also estimation of the partial correlation coefficient between each pair of environmental elements was evaluated and the significance of this correlation was assessed and the differences variance analysis of the data obtained was done to determine the extent of their mean differences according to the geographical location of the recording stations and the timing of the data recording .
The thesis found significant differences between the mean of the environmental elements represented by the total salts and the electrical conductivity of the water and the turbidity according to the geographical location of the data recording stations , and the presence of significant differences between the mean of the environmental elements represented by iron, calcium, nitrates, copper, phosphate, basal, chlorine and oils according to the time of data recording, The pH did not make a significant difference in either case .
Some environmental elements (represented by total salts, electrical conductivity, iron, turbidity and chlorine) exceeded the permitted global or Iraqi standards and promised water accordingly.
The thesis also included a summary of the estimated values of total salts according to the electrical conductivity of the water, which is easily and quickly measured as an indicator of pollution .
