As part of efforts to strengthen academic cooperation and foster openness to international educational institutions, Assistant Professor Dr. Hussein Imran Naji, a faculty member in the Department of Accounting at the College of Administration and Economics – University of Karbala, participated in an international academic seminar organized by Sairman University, India. He delivered a specialized scientific lecture titled:
“The Role of the Audit Committee Chairperson in Reducing Earnings Manipulation.”
This participation was made possible with the generous support of the President of the University of Karbala, Professor Dr. Sabah Wajid Ali, and the direct sponsorship of the Dean of the College of Administration and Economics, Assistant Professor Dr. Hashim Jabbar Al-Husseini.
Lecture Topics:
The lecture addressed several key areas dealing with current challenges in the accounting profession, including:
- Definition and types of earnings manipulation, and its impact on the quality of financial statements and investor confidence.
- The role of the audit committee chairperson in enhancing financial transparency and guiding internal and external audit practices.
- Controls and procedures necessary to reduce manipulation practices, through risk assessment, analysis of accounting policies, and cooperation with external auditors.
- A comparative analysis of audit committee practices in selected Arab and international companies.
- Recommendations to enhance the independence and effectiveness of audit committees in line with international corporate governance standards.
International Interaction and Recognition:
The lecture was met with significant engagement from researchers and academics participating in the seminar. Dr. Hussein Imran received praise for his rigorous academic approach and the advanced level of knowledge presented.
