College of Administration and Economics at the University of Karbala Organizes a Scientific Workshop Entitled

“Advanced Scientific Research Skills: From Idea to Publication”**

The College of Administration and Economics at the University of Karbala organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled “Advanced Scientific Research Skills: From Idea to Publication”, delivered by Asst. Prof. Mahdi Mohammed Al-Yasiri, at Al-Rafidain Hall in the college, with the participation of a group of postgraduate students and individuals interested in scientific research.

The workshop aimed to develop students’ abilities across the various stages of preparing scientific research and to equip them with advanced academic skills that help them produce high-quality studies suitable for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals. The workshop covered three main themes as follows:


First Theme: Starting from the Idea and Research Formulation

  • Introduction to academic scientific research and its importance in postgraduate studies.
  • Selecting the research topic and defining the research problem.
  • Formulating research questions and hypotheses.
  • Reviewing previous literature and mechanisms for avoiding scientific plagiarism.
  • Using modern tools to search for academic sources, such as:
    Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science.

Second Theme: Research Methodology and Analysis

  • Designing research methodologies, including descriptive, analytical, and applied approaches.
  • Data collection methods (questionnaires, interviews, secondary data).
  • Key statistical analysis tools and software, such as:
    SPSS, EViews, and Stata.
  • Linking the theoretical framework with the practical framework.
  • Ethics of scientific research.

Third Theme: Academic Writing and Publication

  • Fundamentals of rigorous academic writing and citation styles (APA – MLA – Chicago).
  • Structure of a scientific paper: Introduction – Methodology – Results – Discussion – Conclusion.
  • How to prepare an effective abstract.
  • Publication mechanisms in peer-reviewed journals and classifications of Scopus and Web of Science.
  • Strategies for dealing with reviewers’ comments.

Workshop Outcomes

The workshop contributed to enabling students to:

  • Acquire skills in formulating a comprehensive research topic.
  • Become familiar with modern digital tools in scientific research.
  • Prepare rigorous scientific research suitable for publication in reputable international journals.

This workshop comes in line with the College of Administration and Economics at the University of Karbala’s commitment to supporting scientific research, developing students’ capabilities, and promoting a culture of high-quality academic publishing.
