The College of Administration and Economics at the University of Karbala participated in the activities of the First International Scientific Conference organized by the College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas under the slogan:
(Developments in the Oil and Gas Industry and Their Reflections on Sustainable Development in Iraq), which was held on 11–12 February, with wide participation from researchers and academics representing various Iraqi and Arab universities.
The college’s participation came through a research paper entitled:
“Green Hydrogen as a Sustainable Development Path for an Environmentally Friendly Economy in Iraq,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Shaimaa Rasheed Mohsin. The paper addressed the importance of transitioning toward clean energy sources and highlighted the strategic role of green hydrogen in supporting the national economy and reducing carbon emissions, in line with sustainable development goals and global energy transition trends.
The study provided an analytical overview of Iraq’s potential for green hydrogen production by utilizing its natural resources, particularly solar energy, in addition to the possibility of employing the existing oil and gas infrastructure in clean energy projects. It also discussed the economic, technical, and legislative challenges that may face this transition and presented a set of recommendations aimed at supporting decision-makers in adopting sustainable energy policies that contribute to diversifying income sources and strengthening the green economy.
The conference included discussions on several scientific themes related to recent developments in the oil and gas industry, future investments, advanced technologies, and their implications for achieving sustainable development in Iraq.
This participation reflects the College of Administration and Economics – University of Karbala’s commitment to supporting rigorous scientific research, enhancing its academic presence in international forums, and actively contributing to strategic visions that serve the path of sustainable development in Iraq.
