As part of its awareness program aimed at strengthening the university environment intellectually and promoting the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, the College of Administration and Economics at the University of Karbala organized a specialized training course entitled: “Combating Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism.”
The course was held from Tuesday, February 17, 2026, to Thursday, February 19, 2026, and primarily targeted undergraduate students from the various departments of the college, considering them the fundamental pillar in building a conscious and stable society.
The course sessions were delivered by a group of specialized academics, including:
- Prof. Dr. Munadhal Abbas
- Lecturer Dr. Ghsoon Kazem
- Assistant Lecturer Huda Mahdi Ali
The lecturers alternated in presenting the psychological, social, and legal dimensions of extremism, highlighting how to identify extremist ideas in their early stages and ways to confront them through dialogue and scientific reasoning.
The course included extensive discussions on several key topics, most notably:
- The concept of violent extremism: distinguishing between freedom of expression and behaviors that lead to hatred and violence.
- The role of academic institutions: how universities can serve as a barrier against deviant ideological movements.
- Safe use of technology: raising awareness about the dangers of online recruitment and how to deal with inciting content on social media.
- Promoting citizenship: emphasizing the importance of national identity and human values as tools to counter hate speech.
The course witnessed strong engagement from students, through discussions and questions that reflected a high level of awareness regarding the necessity of combating extremist ideologies. At the conclusion of the course, participants emphasized the importance of intensifying such activities to promote social peace and protect young people from being misled by deceptive slogans.
This course comes in line with ministerial and university directives to activate the national strategy for combating extremism, reaffirming the role of the College of Administration and Economics as a beacon of knowledge and noble moral values
