University of Karbala Commemorates Victims of the Yazidi Genocide and Other Iraqi Components with a Solidarity Stand

The University of Karbala organized a solidarity stand in remembrance of the victims of the genocide committed against the Yazidi community and other Iraqi components. The event was attended by the University President, Professor Dr. Sabah Wajid Ali, his administrative and academic deputies, a number of college deans, professors, and staff members.

Dr. Sabah Wajid emphasized that “the University of Karbala stands today in reverence for the victims of the genocide committed against our Yazidi brothers and other communities—an atrocity that represents one of the most horrific crimes against humanity.”

The University President also stressed the importance of reinforcing the values of peaceful coexistence and acceptance of others, and underscored the unity of Iraqi social fabric that terrorism has repeatedly tried, but failed, to destroy.

Participants condemned the heinous acts committed by terrorist groups against innocent civilians, calling for justice, accountability for the perpetrators, and serious efforts to support and compensate the victims and their families.

It is worth noting that in 2014, the terrorist organization ISIS committed systematic genocidal crimes against the Yazidi community in the Sinjar district of Nineveh Province. These atrocities led to the killing of thousands, the abduction of women and children, and the mass displacement of tens of thousands. The impact of this humanitarian tragedy continues to resonate deeply in the Iraqi collective memory.
