Professor Dr. Kamal Kazem Jawad Al-Shammari, Head of the Department of Financial and Banking Sciences at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Karbala, chaired the defense committee for a master’s thesis in the Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics – University of Wasit, on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
The thesis, submitted by student Qisma Kareem and entitled “Analyzing the Impact of Certain Monetary Policy Variables on Fixed Capital in Iraq for the Period 2004–2021”, examined the influence of monetary policy variables in strengthening or weakening fixed capital in Iraq during the specified period. The study focused on monetary policy tools such as the exchange rate and interest rates, in addition to other economic variables.
The research findings revealed that fixed capital in Iraq is directly and significantly affected by monetary policy variables, particularly through changes in exchange rates and interest rates. This highlights the pivotal role of monetary policy in influencing investment dynamics and economic development.

The defense witnessed an in-depth scientific discussion and rich academic dialogue, during which the committee members praised the researcher’s efforts and emphasized the significance of the study in shedding light on the role of monetary policy in supporting fixed capital as one of the cornerstones of economic growth in Iraq.
