Under the patronage of the Presidency of the University of Karbala, the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), in cooperation with the university, organized an awareness seminar entitled “The Importance of Receiving the Biometric Voter Card and Broad Participation in the 2025 Parliamentary Elections.” The event was held at the university’s main hall, with the attendance of a large number of professors, students, and staff members.

The seminar began with a speech by Assistant Professor Dr. Haider Mohammed Imran, the University’s Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, who emphasized the university’s commitment to supporting democratic practices and enhancing electoral awareness among its faculty and students. He pointed out that this seminar is part of a series of activities aimed at encouraging active participation in the upcoming elections, scheduled to be held on November 11.

For his part, Mr. Ali Abdul Amir, Director of the Electoral Commission Office in Karbala, explained that the Commission continues its awareness campaigns in various governmental and academic institutions to encourage citizens to collect their biometric cards and engage positively in the elections. He stressed that this step is a cornerstone in strengthening the democratic experience in Iraq.

The seminar also witnessed active participation from Assistant Professor Dr. Hashem Jabbar Al-Husseini, Dean of the College of Administration and Economics, who highlighted in his remarks the crucial role of academia in raising awareness among youth and students about the importance of exercising their electoral rights and contributing to Iraq’s future through conscious and responsible participation in the elections.

The event concluded with an open discussion session addressing key challenges related to receiving the biometric voter card, exploring ways to overcome obstacles preventing some citizens from participating, and discussing mechanisms for updating voter data while answering attendees’ questions about the upcoming electoral process.
