This study aims to analyze the impact of climate change on the agricultural sector in Iraq during the period 1993–2023, in light of the country’s experience of rising temperatures, fluctuations in rainfall, and an increase in drought periods over recent decades. The importance of the research stems from the vital role played by the agricultural sector in achieving food security and supporting the national economy.
The study adopted a descriptive–analytical approach, supported by available climatic and agricultural data, in addition to analyzing indicators of agricultural production and cultivated areas of the main crops in the study region. The results revealed a clear relationship between climate change and declining agricultural productivity, particularly for strategic crops, as well as increased pressure on water resources and rising production costs. The study also discussed the major challenges faced by farmers in adapting to these changes. The study concluded with the necessity of adopting integrated agricultural and climate policies, strengthening agricultural adaptation strategies, and developing water resource management, in order to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change and achieve sustainability in Iraq’s agricultural sector
