Financial Performance Evaluation of the Insurance Sector and its Impact on Market Indicators

Abstract

The study aims to evaluate the financial performance of the insurance sector and to show the extent of its impact on the financial market indicators, for a sample of the comprehensive inventory of the insurance companies listed in the Iraq Stock Exchange, which number five companies, namely Al-Ahlia Company, Al-Ameen Company, Al-Khaleej Company, Al-Hamra Company, and Dar  Salaam Company. and the direct impact of the study variables were tested through financial analysis first, and then using an appropriate variable. A set of performance indicators related to the insurance sector were used: total insurance premiums index, insurance intensity index, and insurance depth index from 2007 to 2021. The market indicators that were regarded in this study include trading volume ratio indicator, market return indicator, and number of transactions indicator. To measure the effect of study variables, panel data were relied upon using (EViews v.12) and Excel. The study reached a set of results, the most important of which is the impact of the financial performance of the insurance sector on market indicators. The study also showed a weakness in the performance of insurance companies as a result of several factors, the most important of which is the country.
