As part of its programs aimed at enhancing intellectual awareness and promoting humanitarian and national values among students, the College of Administration and Economics at the University of Karbala organized an awareness lecture titled “Combating Extremist Ideologies through Awareness and Education for University Students”, targeting undergraduate students. The lecture was held from November 4 to 6, 2025.
The lecture was delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Dorin Benjamin Hormuz, who discussed the concept of extremist thought, its causes, and the factors contributing to its spread. She highlighted the intellectual and social risks it poses to individuals and society, and emphasized the role of educational institutions, particularly universities, in confronting it through awareness, education, and developing students’ critical thinking.
The lecture also focused on the importance of promoting values of moderation, tolerance, and acceptance of others, spreading a culture of dialogue, and rejecting violence and extremism. It underscored the pivotal role of students in protecting society from destructive ideas through knowledge, awareness, and open-minded thinking.
The lecture witnessed active engagement from the students through discussions and questions, reflecting its significance in enhancing intellectual awareness and contributing to the development of a conscious university generation capable of addressing contemporary intellectual challenges.
