As part of its scientific and awareness activities, the Human Rights Unit at the College of Administration and Economics / University of Karbala organized a training course entitled:
“Educating and Raising Students’ Awareness of Human Rights in the University Environment” for students of the Department of Business Administration during the period 8–9–10 / 2, with the participation of a number of the college’s faculty members.
The course was delivered by:
- Prof. Dr. Doreen Benjamin Hermiz
- Lecturer Dr. Ayoub Jassim Mohammed
- Assistant Lecturer Ali Mohammed Mohsen Hassan
The course included scientific and interactive sessions that focused on introducing students to the concept of human rights and their legal and ethical foundations, as well as clarifying the most important rights and duties of students within the university campus. Particular emphasis was placed on freedom of expression, respect for others’ opinions, equality, non-discrimination, and the right to a safe and creativity-enhancing learning environment.
The lectures also addressed national and international legal frameworks governing human rights and their implications for the academic environment. They highlighted mechanisms for promoting a culture of mutual respect between students and faculty members, as well as the role of educational institutions in reinforcing the principles of justice, transparency, and integrity.
The course witnessed notable interaction from students through interventions, questions, and open discussions aimed at enhancing their legal and human rights awareness and building a university personality that is aware of its rights and committed to its duties.
This course comes within the College of Administration and Economics’ efforts to promote a human rights culture within the university community and to prepare students with legal and ethical awareness that contributes to building an academic environment based on respect and responsibility, in line with the university’s mission and its goals of serving society and strengthening the values of good citizenship.
