In a step aimed at keeping pace with global developments in the governance and financial control environment, the Department of Accounting held an intensive specialized scientific course entitled: “The Updated Integrated COBIT Framework for Internal Control”
The course was launched over three consecutive days, for the period from 17 to 19 March 2026, specifically aimed at the students of the Accounting Department, to introduce them to modern international standards that integrate information technology and accounting control.
The course witnessed the participation of distinguished scientific and academic figures in the presentation of the scientific material, namely:
- Prof. Dr. Salah Mahdi Al-Kawaz
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azhar Sobhi Al-Jubouri
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Moayyad Saleh
The course highlighted the importance of the COBIT framework as a leading global tool in IT governance and its role in strengthening internal control systems, and included the following topics:
- The concept of the updated COBIT framework: and the philosophy of linking business goals with IT objectives.
- Strengthening Internal Control: How the Framework Contributes to Reducing Financial and Operational Risks in Modern Organizations.
- Basic Principles of Governance: Explain the five principles that underpin the updated framework and how to apply them accounting.
- Practical Application: To provide students with the necessary skills to evaluate the efficiency of control systems in light of digital transformation.
The lecturers stressed that familiarity with the COBIT framework is a major competitive advantage for the students of the accounting department when they enter the labor market, especially in audit offices and large companies that adopt advanced governance systems. The sessions witnessed high academic interaction through questions and interventions that focused on how these international frameworks can be aligned with the local environment.
