As part of his strategic vision to develop the Iraqi academic system and keep pace with global digital and knowledge transformations, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, issued a ministerial order to establish the Colleges of Excellence and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Baghdad, starting from the academic year 2025/2026.

The College of Excellence will include the departments of Applied Information Systems, Data Science, E-Business Management, Accounting and Banking, Philosophy, and Sociology. Meanwhile, the College of Artificial Intelligence will offer specializations in Engineering Applications, Biomedical Applications, and Big Data.

The ministerial order set August 20, 2025, as the deadline to complete the logistical and human resource requirements for both colleges. The Department of Studies, Planning, and Follow-up was directed to establish admission regulations and application mechanisms to ensure the recruitment of talented students and accommodate those aspiring to innovative educational environments.
