The Department of Financial and Banking Sciences at the College of Administration and Economics – University of Karbala organized a training course titled “Financial Statement Analysis”, held from October 20 to 22, 2025, with the participation of a group of undergraduate students from the department. The course was supervised and delivered by Asst. Lect. Haider Nasser Hussein, who served as the main instructor.
The course aimed to introduce students to the fundamental concepts of financial statement analysis and how these statements are used to evaluate the financial performance of institutions and companies. It also aimed to train them in analyzing financial data and deriving indicators that support sound economic and administrative decision-making.
The course covered several key topics, including:
- The concept of financial statements and their main types (balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement).
- Horizontal and vertical analysis of financial statements and how to compare results across time periods.
- Financial ratios and their importance in evaluating financial performance and forecasting the financial future of an enterprise.
- The use of financial analysis in investment and managerial decision-making.
During the sessions, the instructor, Asst. Lect. Haider Nasser Hussein, presented practical applications using real financial data, providing students with hands-on training in financial analysis and interpretation of results. The course also witnessed strong engagement from the participating students, who showed great interest in the analytical and practical aspects of the subject.
At the conclusion of the course, the college administration expressed its appreciation to the instructor for his efforts in delivering advanced scientific content that contributes to enhancing students’ competencies. The administration emphasized that such training courses fall within the college’s strategy to develop students’ skills and connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications in financial and banking work environments.
