The College of Administration and Economics Organizes a Training Course on Countering Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism

The College of Administration and Economics at the University of Karbala organized a specialized training course titled “Countering Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism,” delivered by Professor Dr. Husam Hussein Shaya, from December 16 to 18, 2025, with the participation of a group of undergraduate students from various academic departments.

The course aimed to enhance students’ intellectual and behavioral awareness, introduce the risks and mechanisms of violent extremism, and explain how extremist groups exploit social and economic gaps to attract young people. The course also addressed indicators of extremist behavior, methods of prevention, and ways to strengthen the resilience of individuals and society against radical ideologies.

Dr. Shaya’s lectures included a comprehensive presentation on the concept and stages of extremism, along with discussions of successful international models in countering terrorism and practices related to critical-thinking skills, which are considered essential in protecting individuals from being influenced by extremist rhetoric.

The course witnessed strong student engagement through questions and discussions, affirming the importance of such activities in promoting community awareness and reinforcing the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
