As part of its scientific plan to develop students’ analytical skills and connect academic knowledge with practical application, the College of Administration and Economics at the University of Karbala organized a specialized training course titled:
“Financial Analysis Using Financial Ratios.”
The course was held from Sunday, February 23, 2026, to Tuesday, February 25, 2026, and was directed primarily at undergraduate students in the finance and accounting departments, aiming to equip them with the essential tools required to evaluate the performance of institutions and companies.
The course was delivered by specialized academic staff members:
- Assistant Lecturer Mustafa Subaih Majeed
- Assistant Lecturer Mustafa Hassan Nasrallah
The lecturers emphasized that financial ratio analysis is the “language of numbers” that enables decision-makers to understand the strengths and weaknesses of a company’s financial position, beyond the traditional reading of accounting tables.
The course included intensive practical applications covering the following topics:
Liquidity Ratios:
How to measure a company’s ability to meet its short-term obligations.
Profitability Ratios:
Analyzing the efficiency of management in generating profits from sales and available investments.
Activity (Turnover) Ratios:
Measuring how efficiently a company uses its assets and resources.
Debt Ratios:
Evaluating the company’s financing structure and the extent of reliance on loans to finance assets.
The course aimed to prepare a generation of financial analysts capable of reading financial statements and extracting indicators useful for investors, banks, and tax authorities. The sessions witnessed strong student engagement through the analysis of real-world examples of joint-stock companies, which helped reinforce the practical understanding of these mathematical and statistical tools.
This initiative comes within the vision of the college administration to enhance educational outcomes and prepare students to enter the financial and banking labor market with confidence, emphasizing the importance of such courses in shaping the professional character of university students.
