As part of its efforts to enhance the analytical tools of its students and enable them to conduct rigorous applied research, the College of Administration and Economics at the University of Karbala organized a specialized training course titled:
“Developing Postgraduate Students’ Skills Using the EViews Statistical Program”
The course was held from Sunday, February 22, 2026, to Tuesday, February 24, 2026, and directly targeted postgraduate students (Master’s and PhD), aiming to strengthen their capabilities in handling time series data and econometric analysis.
The course was delivered by:
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Ali Ismail Abdul Majeed
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Ali Aed
- Asst. Lect. Basheer Dohan Hamza
The instructors emphasized that EViews is one of the most widely used and efficient tools for processing economic data, enabling researchers to build accurate econometric models that support the findings of their theses and dissertations.
The course included intensive hands-on training in computer laboratories, covering the following topics:
- Basics of Using the Software: Structuring data, data entry, and ensuring data accuracy.
- Time Series Tests: Conducting stationarity tests and cointegration tests.
- Building Econometric Models: Estimating multiple linear regression models and dynamic models.
- Model Diagnostics: Testing model validity and ensuring it is free from econometric issues (such as autocorrelation and heteroskedasticity).
The course aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical econometrics and practical application, equipping students with the necessary skills to analyze their research data efficiently. Students showed strong engagement through hands-on applications using real economic data, which enhanced their analytical skills and will directly improve the quality of their academic outputs.
This initiative comes as part of the college administration’s commitment to providing an advanced research environment for postgraduate students and keeping pace with the latest global software, ensuring the rigor of research and facilitating publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
